Aldridge Urges Liverpool To Secure 100M Transfer Ahead Of Chelsea, United And City

Ex-Liverpool striker John Aldridge has urged his former club to consider signing Borussia Dortmund‘s Erling Haaland at the end of the season.

The front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah have come in for criticism in recent weeks, with the Reds misfiring in front of goal, and Aldridge thinks Haaland would be a solution:

“A player like Haaland would give them that variation and while he would cost in excess of £100m to sign from Dortmund, he is the man I’d like to see Liverpool go for. This lad looks to be the real deal and he has lived up to his hype time and again over the last year. He’s strong, direct, great in the air and a brilliant finisher.”

“On top of that, he is young and hungry, which is what Liverpool need in a team that has lost a little of its bite amid their current slump. Haaland has everything you look to be a top centre-forward and having him alongside Mane, Salah and Diogo Jota next season would give Liverpool a real chance to spring back into contention for the top trophies.”

Competition for Haaland will be fierce, with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all thought to be interested in snapping up the Norwegian international.

As Aldridge points out, the 20-year-old won’t come cheap either with Dortmund believed to be reluctant to let the forward leave, after scoring 21 goals in just 19 appearances for the Bundesliga club so far this campaign.

A release clause is said to be in Haaland’s contract but that will reportedly only activate in the summer of 2022. Whether Liverpool would have the resources to finance a deal for the Norwegian, it seems unlikely, but he would certainly add firepower to Jurgen Klopp’s attack.
