Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is now taking freekicks for his new club Zenit St Petersburg and Reds fans are not quite sure what to make of it.
Midway through the first half of Zenit’s 0-0 draw against Lokomotiv Moscow yesterday, the Croatian international stepped up to strike the ball from nearly 30 yards out and only narrowly missed the left-hand post.
It isn’t a sight that many would have expected and Liverpool supporters on Twitter have been commenting on Lovren’s surprising new role:

Although the Croatian was much-maligned during his time at Anfield, the 31-year-old helped the Reds win a number of trophies in his six years on Merseyside, and it is great to see he is getting a new lease of life in Russia.
Whether Lovren will actually stick one of his freekicks away, if he is given another opportunity by Zenit this season, we shall have to wait and see.
