£20m Flop Finally Departs Liverpool After Four And A Half Years

Liverpool have offloaded Lazar Markovic to Fulham on a free transfer, the club have confirmed.

The Serbian was originally signed from Benfica for £20m in the summer of 2014, but the winger failed to live up to expectations.

During his four and a half years at Anfield, Markovic made just 34 appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

The majority of his time at the Reds has been spent out on loan. He had spells with Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, Hull City and Anderlecht but didn’t secure a permanent move away from Merseyside.

With his deal expiring in the summer, it was expected that Markovic would see out his contract, but Fulham have swooped in to take him for the remainder of the campaign.

It will save Liverpool up to £1million in wages and other fees, but since his last game for the club in 2015, the Serbian has earned £9.75m. The Reds will be happy to have the winger off the books.
