£90m Rated German Wonderkid Responds To Transfer Speculation As Liverpool Eye Deal

Liverpool are one of three teams who are interested in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, according to Bild.

The German tabloid reports that the Reds, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are all keen on the 20-year-old.

When asked by Bild specifically about being targeted by Bayen, Havertz replied that he doesn’t necessarily see himself staying in Germany:

“I really do not know yet, whether Bayern is the next and right step for me. I also do not know whether it would be more likely to be a foreign [club] for me. I really do not worry too much about it at the moment.”

Havertz will no doubt be on manager Jurgen Klopp’s radar after a superb year for Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

The attacking midfielder scored 20 goals and contributed seven assists in 42 appearances for the German club, and he also made his senior debut for the German national side.

Havertz was also asked about whether he’d be able to cope if he was sold for a sizeable transfer fee. The midfielder is contracted to Leverkusen until 2022, and he has no buyout clause. Some reports suggest his club won’t sell him for less than €100m (£90m) but the German starlet said he would take any transfer in his stride:

“I’ll handle it easily. That’s the market, I can not do [anything about] that. Everything has just developed like that. Of course, you would have the stamp on the forehead if you would switch for so much money. The pressure would be higher than for a free player. Personally, I would not care how much money is paid in the end. I can not really influence that. “
