“Absolutely…” John Barnes Backs Liverpool To Make Summer Swoop For 75K A Week Chelsea Star

Liverpool legend John Barnes believes Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount would be an excellent addition to the Reds’ squad.

The England international could leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season due to a contract dispute and, asked whether he would be a good option for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Barnes replied:

“Absolutely. He can play any of the front three positions or the midfield positions. He’s got a great attitude, he’s young, he’s English, he understands, he works really hard.”

Mount has eighteen months left on his contract at Chelsea, but he is asking for a sizeable salary increase. He is currently one of the lowest-paid members of the first team squad, with it being claimed he earns just £75,000 a week.

The 24-year-old is likely to want three to four times that amount to sign an extension, and it has been reported by respected journalists that Liverpool are keeping tabs on the player’s situation.

Considering Mount is Chelsea through and through, it would be a surprise if a compromise can’t be reached, but a move to Anfield could be in the offing if talks over a new deal collapse.
