‘An Accident Waiting To Happen’ Sutton Questions Whether Klopp Can Trust Liverpool Star

Anfield Stadium

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has questioned whether Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will trust Adrian in the absence of number one Alisson Becker.

It was revealed before the heavy 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend that Alisson would be out for between four to six weeks with a shoulder injury, but Sutton has raised doubts about the competency of his replacement in goal:

“Alisson is out for another month, isn’t he?! Does he trust Adrian? He seems to be an accident waiting to happen. It will be interesting to see if whether Liverpool adapt a little bit with Adrian in goal.”

Adrian was certainly at fault for the first goal at Villa Park, and he could have perhaps done better for the seventh when Jack Grealish sidefooted the ball past him, but he could not be blamed for the rest of them.

Even so, Sutton is right to point out that the Reds may need to adapt their game in the coming weeks in order to accommodate Adrian’s deficiences. He is very poor in possession and coming off his line. That could necessitate the team playing a deeper defensive live whilst not playing out from the back as frequently.
