Lille midfielder Renato Sanches is expected to undergo knee surgery which will keep him out until September, according to reports in the French media.
The Portuguese international was reportedly a target for Liverpool, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano having confirmed the Reds were interested in the player, who is valued at €40m (£35m).
Some fans on Twitter are disappointed that Sanches will not be signed this month, while others felt the club dodged a bullet, considering the 23-year-old’s poor injury record:
Another target gone ??. I’d rather us get a forward player.

What a player gutted for him seems injuries will always hamper him taking his game to the next level…

Sanches had a very good European Championships, and he has also been tracked by Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, but it appears no bid will be made for the Portuguese star.
Replacing Georginio Wijnaldum has been a prominent theme for transfer stories over the summer. However, it seems manager Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards are not desperate to bring in another midfielder before the transfer window closes.
