Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says he is happy with the Reds’ preseason preparation despite a 2-2 draw against Red Bull Salzburg in their last friendly. Following that result, they will return from their training camp in Austria ahead of the FA Community Shield against Arsenal this weekend.
In terms of team news, the Merseyside club have seven players currently on the treatment table. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harry Wilson and Ki-Jana Hoever (ankle) are all doubts, while captain Jordan Henderson (knee), Joel Matip (toe) and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain (knee) have all been ruled out. Virgil van Dijk gashed his head versus Salzburg but Klopp has played down fears that he could miss the game at Wembley.
For Arsenal, head coach Mikel Arteta has just four players out of action. Pablo Mari is out until September with an ankle problem, while Shkodran Mustafi is only expected to return from a hamstring injury in October. Gabriel Martinelli and Calum Chambers (knee) are scheduled to return before the end of the year.
At the bookmakers, Liverpool have been made the favourites to lift the first piece of silverware of the season. The Reds are 4/6 to get the win at Betway, with a draw after 90 minutes 13/4 with 888 Sport. A victory for Arsenal is 4/1 at Bet365.
Predicted Score – 2-1 to Liverpool
