Aston Villa V Liverpool: Match Preview And Betting Odds

Most of Liverpool’s first team was rested as they were knocked out by Arsenal in the Carabao Cup, so they should be fresh for Sunday’s trip to Villa Park.

Aston Villa head coach Dean Smith also rotated his squad for the loss to Stoke City so we shouldn’t read too much into that result either heading into this weekend’s game.

The Reds have five players currently on the treatment table. Captain Jordan Henderson (hamstring) is back in training but his lack of match fitness will likely mean he’ll only make the bench on Sunday.

Kosta Tsimikas (thigh), Joel Matip (hamstring) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) are all unavailable, while Thiago Alcantara is still self-isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.

Villa have six injury concerns. Captain Jack Grealish should be fit after shaking off a dead leg but there are doubts over Kourtney Hause (knock) and Orjan Nyland (back). Bjorn Engels (thigh), Tom Heaton and Wesley (both knee) are all out of contention.

The bookmakers have made Liverpool favourites with William Hill pricing them at 1/3 for the win. A draw is 9/2 with Sky Bet while a Villa victory is currently 9/1 at 888 Sport.

Predicted Score – 2-1 to Liverpool
