Barcelona In ‘Advanced’ Talks To Secure £18m Rated German Ahead Of Liverpool

Barcelona have “advanced” negotiations to sign Augsburg left-back Philipp Max but they are facing fierce competition from Liverpool in their attempts to sign him, according to Sport.

The Catalan publication reports that the German defender has caught the eye of the Reds, as well as a number of other clubs.

Max is valued at approximately €20m (£18m) and Barca are said to have lined up potential alternatives to the fullback if they are beaten to his signature.

Liverpool are in the market for a new left-back this summer following the departure of Alberto Moreno on a free transfer.

Max would be an interesting choice as a replacement. The 25-year-old has spent the last four years at Augsburg, but he was in good form last campaign, scoring four goals and contributing seven assists in 34 appearances.

He does have good attacking instincts, having also played as a winger and as a wingback during his career.
