Bayern Chief Provides Key Update On Thiago’s Future Amid Liverpool Interest

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that the Bundesliga club will not let midfielder Thiago Alcantara run down his contract.

The Spaniard has less than twelve months left on his current deal at the Allianz Arena and has formally told the German side that he is looking for a new challenge. Rummenigge says, however, they will only sell the 29-year-old for a decent price:

“Regarding Thiago, it’s known that he told us he wanted to do something new. If a club approaches us that is willing to pay a fair transfer fee, we will work on it.”

Thiago is believed to be interested in a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool his preferred destination, but the Reds are not actively pursuing the player at the moment.

Bayern reportedly value the midfielder at around €30m (£27m) and that figure is likely to put off the Merseyside club, who do not generally sign players with the Spanish international’s profile.

Despite his undoubted ability, Thiago will turn 30 next season and his injury record means it would be a risky decision to spend a sizeable sum on him.
