Jurgen Klopp gives instructions to James Milner

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has a major selection headache ahead of the Reds’ game against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

With Virgil van Dijk suspended for the first leg of the Champions League tie, it means either Fabinho or Jordan Henderson could line up alongside Joel Matip in the centre of defence.

Dejan Lovren would have been Klopp’s first choice to replace van Dijk but the Croatian is struggling to overcome a hamstring injury that he picked up in the FA Cup loss to Wolves.

Joe Gomez remains on the sidelines following surgery on his fractured leg. The 21-year-old is expected to be out for another four to six weeks.

Xherdan Shaqiri is also a slight doubt because of an abdominal injury. He has been training by himself during the club’s warm-weather training camp in Spain.

However, there is some good news on the injury front with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back in light training. The England international has been out since April with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Rhian Brewster was also out on the training pitch after having missed the first half of this season with ankle and knee problems. Georginio Wijnaldum is back in contention following illness.

For Bayern, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has declared himself fit to face Liverpool. The German international has not featured in the Bundesliga side’s last three games due to a thumb injury.

Arjen Robben, Renato Sanchez and Corentin Tolisso all remain on the treatment table.

The bookmakers have made the Reds favourites, being priced at evens by Bet365. A draw is 29/10 at BetVictor while a Bayern victory is 11/4 at Unibet.

Liverpool’s Predicted XI To Face Bayern Munich:

Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Matip, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Keita, Salah, Firmino, Mane

Bayern Munich’s Predicted XI:

Neuer, Kimmich, Hummels, Boateng, Alaba, Rodriguez, Thiago, Goretzka, Muller, Lewandowski, Coman

Predicted Scored – 2-1 to Liverpool
