‘Being Closely Followed…’ Report Claims Liverpool Have Joined Race To Sign Croatian Star With 43M Release Clause

RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol is “being closely followed” by Liverpool, according to Fichajes.net.

The Spanish rumour mongers claim that the Reds are “attentive” to the Croatian international’s situation, along with Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona.

Gvardiol signed a new contract back in September but it has been reported that the agreement includes a €50m (£43m) release clause that can be triggered at the end of the season.

The presence of the clause means that plenty of clubs are keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, who is seen as one of the most promising young centre-backs in Europe.

Chelsea are still felt to be in the lead for Gvardiol’s signature. The Blues have already had discussions about signing his teammate Christopher Nkunku so the relationship with Leipzig is pretty strong.

For Liverpool, a new centre-half is also unlikely to be a priority next summer with manager Jurgen Klopp expected to focus on reinforcing his midfield options.
