Liverpool defender Joe Gomez picked up an ankle injury in the 2-1 win over Southampton last night.
After the game, The Athletic journalist James Pearce reported that the 24-year-old was seen leaving on crutches with a protective boot on his left foot.
It did look like a nasty injury, with Gomez’s ankle giving away on him following a challenge just before half-time at St Mary’s, and supporters on Twitter are not optimistic about the player making a speedy recovery:
Can’t catch a break can he? pic.twitter.com/92zU4Nd6Un

Gomez does seem to get his fair share of bad luck, and it would be a devastating blow to him if he is sidelined for a lengthy period of time.
In his post-match interview, manager Jurgen Klopp was more positive about Gomez’s chances of returning soon, but he is not a medical expert, so the centre-back will be anxiously awaiting the result of scans that he will undergo in the coming days.
