Carragher Backs Liverpool To Make Summer Swoop For £170m Rated Pair

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes the Reds do need to consider bringing in reinforcements for the front three in the summer.

Speaking after Jurgen Klopp’s side were shutout by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, the TV pundit said he feels that the team need more depth up front when Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino or Mo Salah are not available. He does not believe Divock Origi is a good enough replacement and would love the club to sign Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho:

“The big problem for Liverpool is when one of those front three aren’t playing, so Mane has to come off and the player they bring on is Divock Origi.”

“He is a Liverpool legend because of what happened last year in the same stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano in the Champion League final, but it’s not quite good enough for the best team in the world. Liverpool do need a top attacking player to come in this summer, Sancho or Werner? I’ll take both.”

Sancho is rated at around £120m by Borussia Dortmund, and is also being pursued by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

Werner, meanwhile, reportedly has a €60m (£50m) buyout clause, with the RB Leipzig forward having already admitted that he is “very proud” to be linked with a club like Liverpool.

Whether the Reds will make a bid for either player in the summer, we shall have to wait and see.
