Carragher Names Liverpool’s ‘Biggest Title Rivals’ Following Emphatic Leicester Win

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher still believes Manchester City are the Reds’ biggest rivals in the title race this season despite Jurgen Klopp’s side moving eight points ahead of the Citizens following their victory against Leicester last night.

City had lost 2-0 to Tottenham on Saturday, with Pep Guardiola’s team languishing in 13th place after eight games played, but Carragher insists they are still Liverpool’s biggest challengers for the Premier League title:

“It did feel like a big win [against Leicester], and the fact that Manchester City lost this weekend, who I still feel are Liverpool’s biggest title rivals.”

When pushed as to why he wasn’t considering either table-toppers Spurs or Chelsea in his verdict, Carragher said that people should not dismiss the fact that City and Liverpool have dominated the league over the past four years.

He also still firmly believes the two clubs have the strongest squads in the division, although both have had their fair share of injuries since the start of the season. Naby Keita’s hamstring injury against Leicester means Liverpool now have ten players sidelined, although Mo Salah is expected to return to training this week following a negative virus test.
