Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes it could take until Christmas before we know whether the Reds are favourites to win the Premier League title.

The former defender says he thinks that at this stage, Manchester City have to be considered the frontrunners to lift the trophy despite the Reds’ fine start to the campaign, but he says we should know a lot more in a few months:

“I think it’s a bit early yet. I think we’ve got to probably wait until Christmas. I do feel around about Christmas time Liverpool and City will have a substantial gap and it looks like there’s a little bit of a gap at this moment.”

“But I still think City are favourites and are the best team in the Premier League at this moment because they won the Premier League and they proved that last season.”So, I think it’s still on Liverpool to overtake City but they’re more than capable.”

Liverpool already have a two-point advantage over City but with the season just four games old, there is a long way to go before the runners and riders sort themselves out.

Momentum and consistency are the key, and with the Merseysiders having lost just once in the league since the beginning of last season, you have to think they will continue to impress this campaign.

They will certainly be favourites against Newcastle this weekend as Jurgen Klopp’s men look to make it five wins out of five.
