Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has told Reds supporters to relax about falling two points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table.

The former defender believes fans shouldn’t be too concerned about the situation as the title isn’t won in November:

“Liverpool supporters have got to just relax a little bit. You’d think Liverpool had just lost the league with the reaction after the game, that it was two points dropped, Man City are two points clear – there’s a long way to go.”

However, Carragher does think that City are the better team, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will go on to win the title this season.

A lot can happen during a league campaign, and he thinks that if the Citizens go deep into the Champions League knockout rounds, it could affect their form in the title race.

Carragher believes this is the only chance that Liverpool have of claiming their first league trophy in almost 30 years:

“I think Liverpool’s hope of winning the league is in the second half of the season if City go far in the Champions League, and hope that their focus is on that, taking their eye off the ball slightly.”

“That’s the only chance Liverpool have got because City are better than them.”

Squad depth will certainly play an important role this season, and while Pep Guardiola has a host of players to choose from, Jurgen Klopp also commands a larger pool of talent than last campaign which may prove to be crucial in the battle for the title.
