Cascarino Insists Liverpool Will Remain “Title Favourites” As Long As One Player Stays Fit

Liverpool will stay the favourites to win the Premier League title as long as goalkeeper Alisson Becker stays fit, according to former Chelsea and Marseille striker Tony Cascarino.

The Reds currently have NINE players on the sidelines heading into Saturday’s game against Leicester City but Cascarino believes Jurgen Klopp’s side can cope, as long as Alisson remains in goal:

“With Adrian’s previous errors he is not a quality replacement for Alisson. If the Liverpool goalkeeper stays fit they will still be title favourites.”

It is a bold statement from Cascarino, but there are some statistics that back up his claims. Alisson has conceded 70 goals in 90 games during his three seasons at Anfield, having kept 44 clean sheets with a save percentage of 75.2%.

When we look at expected Goals against, he should have conceded 78, which means he is consistently overperforming when facing shots on goal. In contrast, his understudy Adrian has underperformed, having conceded 19 in 13 appearances, with his xG against being 16.

Alisson has already had one injury this season, and it will be hoped that he can stay fit for the rest of the campaign. His absence at any stage would certainly hand the advantage to the likes Manchester City and Chelsea.
