Liverpool head into another busy week on the back of a successful week where they won matches in the Champions League and Premier League. Jurgen Klopp’s side welcome Danish Champions FC Midtjylland to Anfield on Match Day two.
Midtjylland come to Anfield tied for 1st position in their domestic Danish Superligaen table with 13 points from 6 games with only one loss after winning the title last season to qualify for the Champions League.
On Match Day one the Danish outfit went down at home to a 4-0 loss at the hands of Italian side Atalanta who lost in last year’s Champions League semi-finals to PSG. Midtjylland’s main goal threats come from Danish forwards Anders Dreyer who has 5 goals this season and Pione Sisto with 3 goals.
Liverpool got off to a winning start in Amsterdam in their first game without Virgil van Dijk following his season-ending injury as the Reds claimed a relatively straight forward 1-0 win over Ajax courtesy of a first-half own goal by Nicolas Tagliafico who deflected Sadio Mane’s cross into his own net.
The Reds will possibly be without as many as 6 players vs the Danish side and you can read our latest full Liverpool injury news report as the club are still feeling the effects of the Merseyside Derby against Carlo Ancelotti’s over aggressive Everton side.
Given the various injury doubts to the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Naby Keita we expect it will be a pretty standard and safe selection for such a Champions League encounter. Not to disrespect the opposition but we can see Klopp giving starts to new boy Diogo Jota as well as the likes of Jones, Origi and Minamino with no need to risk starting the returning players or other 1st choice players, with most available from the bench if needed.
Without further delay, we see the Liverpool XI lining up in a 4-3-3 formation (don’t be confused by the layout below):
Prediction: Liverpool 5-1 FC Midtjylland
