Cristiano Ronaldo Makes Frank Admission About Why Liverpool, Chelsea And City Are “The Best”

Anfield Stadium

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo believes the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are currently the top clubs in England because of their consistency.

The Red Devils are a long way behind the top three in the table, and Ronaldo says the key to success in the Premier League is making sure you keep up the same standards week after week:

“To win the league is a marathon not a sprint, a 100 metre sprint. You have to be consistent. This is why the best teams right now in England (are) probably Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Because they are more consistent than the other teams.”

Ronaldo is stating the obvious, but there is no denying that the likes of Liverpool and City have won league titles in recent years simply because they very rarely put in a poor performance.

It is more than that, though. City and Liverpool, in particular, have set new standards over the past few seasons. Four of the top five winning streaks in Premier League history have been recorded by the two clubs since 2017.

Jurgen Klopp‘s side actually went on a 17 match winning streak before a draw at United in October 2019. They then went one better by winning 18 in a row before losing to Watford in March 2020.  That’s extraordinary consistency and something the Reds will be hoping to emulate again in the future.
