Crooks Describes Liverpool Star As Both “Wonderful” And “Grotesque” After Palace Display

BBC pundit Garth Crooks named Liverpool forward Mo Salah in his team of the week for his brace against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

However, the Egyptian international was criticised for a ‘dive’ in the first-half and Crooks says he was torn about his performance at the weekend:

“Mo Salah is breaking my heart. Why would such a wonderful player do something so grotesque?”

“He went down in the penalty area as though he had been poleaxed. Crystal Palace skipper Luka Milivojevic told the Egypt international what he thought of the charade in no uncertain terms, and quite rightly.”

Salah’s double means he has now scored 48 goals in just 59 Premier League appearances for the Reds since his arrival from Roma in 2017.

He has, though, come in for criticism in recent months for going to ground too easily, especially after being awarded a penalty in the 4-0 win over Newcastle last month.

Salah was again in the spotlight against Palace when a challenge from former Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho sent him to the turf.

It must be noted that the 26-year-old did not appeal for a penalty and continued to play the ball when still on the ground. He certainly won’t want to get a reputation for diving though, but with his talent, the focus will always be on his goalscoring ability.
