Ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Darwin Nunez has the “potential” to be a “better goalscorer” than Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus.
While the Uruguayan international has scored 15 goals in all competitions, he has struggled with consistency in front of goal, but Murphy expects the striker to improve in future seasons:
“I actually think Nunez, I think he’s got the potential to be a better goalscorer than Jesus. Jesus is a quality footballer, his touch and his skill. But he’s only 22 [sic]. So in the next few years…”
To be honest, being a better finisher than Jesus would probably be the bare minimum that the Reds would expect from Nunez, considering they shelled out a club-record fee on the forward.
Plenty of former players, including Premier League legends Ian Wright and Alan Shearer, have insisted that Nunez has the ability to be an outstanding goalscorer, so fans will be hoping that he begins to realise his promise in the not-too-distant future.
Why has Nunez struggled in his first season in England?
Manager Jurgen Klopp has placed a lot of the blame on the language barrier. Nunez has taken time to learn English and it may take him a while to settle in the north of England.
The striker has wasted a lot of chances too, and that is demonstrated by the fact that his actual goal total is trailing his xG by 3.1 this campaign.
