Danny Murphy Predicts Key Liverpool Star Will Be Snubbed For World Cup Squad

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is unlikely to be included in England’s 23-man squad for the World Cup, according to talkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy.

The former Red believes that even though he personally would take the 23-year-old on the flight to Qatar, national team head coach Gareth Southgate won’t be of the same opinion:

“I don’t think Trent goes. I don’t think that Southgate will pick him… Would I pick him? Yes. In terms of right-backs, everyone will have different choices because we are blessed with them. The thing Trent gives you that none of the others do, even if you don’t start him, he can do things from an attacking point of view that the others can’t.”

Based on Alexander-Arnold’s current form, it seems unlikely that he will be picked by Southgate, especially as he has the likes of Chelsea’s Reece James, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier to choose from as well.

If he impresses in the Nations League fixtures later this month and then carries on impressing for his club when Liverpool resume their games at the beginning of October then he could be back in contention.

Of course, most Liverpool fans will be indifferent about whether he goes to the World Cup or not, but the player will be determined to be on that plane in November.
