Darwin Nunez Reacts To Jurgen Klopp’s Comments And Speaks Out About His Future Plans

Benfica striker Darwin Nunez says he appreciates being complimented by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp but he would not be drawn on his future beyond the end of the season.

Before last night’s 3-3 draw at Anfield, Klopp predicted that Nunez had a “big career ahead of him” but, responding to the remarks, the Uruguayan international said he was keeping his feet firmly on the ground:

“What the Liverpool coach said, as well as our coach, I take it as a compliment, but my mind is on Benfica. Until the season is over, I won’t say anything, and I’ll leave everything for this shirt. My job is to continue like this, to take advantage of this luck that is happening to me. Last year I didn’t play at all, but this year I’m having an incredible season. I have to continue like this, and there is also a lot of merit from my colleagues.”

It looks as though Nunez has a good mentality. Despite reports that the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham are pursuing his services, he is not letting the speculation get to him.

The 22-year-old got on the scoresheet once again yesterday evening but, despite bagging goals in both legs, it wasn’t enough to help his Benfica side progress in the Champions League (as they went down 6-4 on aggregate).

Nunez is expected to be sold for between €70m (£58m) and €80m (£66m) this summer, so there will, undoubtedly, be a scramble for his signature.
