Liverpool are “close to signing” Juventus midfielder Arthur on a season-long loan, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein and James Pearce.

The reliable journalists have confirmed reports in Italy that the Reds have made a move for the Brazilian, who has been capped 22 times by his country.

Arthur is currently travelling to the UK for a medical and it is “expected” that a deal will be finalised before the deadline at 11 PM BST on Thursday night.

The need for another midfielder became even more pressing after captain Jordan Henderson suffered a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Newcastle on Wednesday evening.

With the likes of Thiago, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain already on the treatment table, the decision was made to bring in a short-term solution to alleviate the injury crisis.

Arthur was heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal during the January transfer window, and he has been deemed surplus to requirements by Juve, so we shall see if he ends up being a success at Anfield.
