Liverpool are tracking Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, according to reports in the English media.
The Dutch international was a target for Manchester United last summer but it appears Jurgen Klopp is considering the player as the Reds look to strengthen their backline.
Supporters on Twitter are very much split on whether Timber would be a good addition to the squad, with some unconvinced about his performances for the Netherlands at the World Cup:
Defo would have him if we cant get Gvardiol.

Please no. Seen him at World Cup. Way below Gvardiol standards.

Would be a great signing and cheaper option to Joško Gvardiol

I don’t want any one from that league unless it’s Sangare or Kudus

Very quick and can play RB, might be an option worth considering with Matip probably leaving in the summer.

If we can’t get Gvardiol please get him….his very aggressive in defence and he’s taller than The Butcher💀

No chance. Doesn’t profile as a klopp type centre back

At 21 years of age, Timber certainly has room to develop his game, and his ability to play both as a centre-half and right-back could also prove invaluable.
Probably the main reason why Liverpool would pursue the Dutchman, instead of a player like Josko Gvardiol, is down to the price. Timber is likely to cost half the amount, and he may turn out to have a similar ceiling on his potential. We shall have to wait and see whether the reports about the Reds’ interest are accurate.
