“Didn’t Fancy It…” Gary Neville Slams Liverpool Star After Struggling To Handle Arsenal Player

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was not impressed with Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk‘s defending for Arsenal’s second goal in the 2-2 draw on Sunday.

The Dutchman failed to read the flight of the cross and allowed Gabriel Jesus a free header to put the Gunners 2-0 up in the first half. Commenting on the goal, Neville said van Dijk made no effort to prevent the Brazilian from scoring:

“Deary, deary me. That’s desperation – not frustration. Van Dijk didn’t fancy it against Jesus. He was beaten, well beaten.”

As manager Jurgen Klopp said after the game, the Reds simply didn’t turn up for the first 30 minutes and van Dijk’s performance epitomised how poor they were.

While his centre-back partner Ibrahima Konate had the beating of Jesus in the majority of duels, van Dijk struggled and he looks like a player bereft of confidence at the moment.

When once it looked like nobody in Europe could get the better of him, it appears that he can now be got at, week in, week out. Hopefully, van Dijk can rediscover his best form soon.
