‘Door Closed…’ Report Claims Manager Has Persuaded 42M Rated Liverpool Target To Make Transfer U Turn

Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim has persuaded Matheus Nunes to stay with the club for “one more season”, according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese publication report that the 23-year-old has had the “door closed” on his plans to move teams this summer, with Amorim having also made his feelings clear to club president Frederico Varandas.

It was believed that Sporting were prepared to sell Nunes for around €50m (£42m), with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City having all been credited with an interest in the player.

There were claims made in England last week that the Reds were stepping up their attempts to sign the Portuguese international, although those suggestions were later played down.

From the looks of things, it appears Sporting have now made Liverpool’s decision for them. The intervention of Amorim seems to have been crucial, with Nunes now set to remain in Portugal for another twelve months.
