‘Fantastic If True’ ‘Deserves Every Penny!’ Fans On Twitter Reacts To Reports Of Liverpool’s Star’s Contract Talks

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is on the verge of signing a new six-year contract at the club, according to the Mirror. The newspaper claims that the Dutchman’s new deal could be worth up to £200,000 a week.

Reports in the local media have since contradicted the story but supporters on Twitter are hopeful that the news will turn out to be genuine:

Van Dijk still has four years remaining on the deal he signed when he arrived at the beginning of the January 2018 transfer window. After performing so well during his 20 months at the club, offering improved terms cannot be completely ruled out but it appears a new contract is not being considered at this time.

The contract of Van Dijk’s centre-back partner is likely to be a more pressing concern. Joel Matip’s current deal reportedly ends in the summer, although there have been reports that the 28-year-old has another year to run. Even so, tying down the defender should be a top priority.
