Firmino wants all-English affair in Champions League quarters

Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino says he is hoping to draw one of the Red’s Premier League rivals in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Jurgen Klopp’s men made it through to the last-eight after beating Porto 5-0 on aggregate on, making them the first English side to qualify for the next round of the competition.

Manchester City also made it through, beating Basel 5-2 on aggregate despite losing 2-1 to the Swiss Champions on Wednesday night.

After Tottenham’s defeat to Juventus last night which knocked them out of the tournament, Manchester United and Chelsea face Sevilla and Barcelona respectively next week as they look to secure their places in the last-eight.

Should they do so, Firmino says he hopes his side draw one of their English counterparts rather than any of the other teams left in the tournament.

“Yes, we’d like a draw against an English club,” said the striker.

“We have shown in the past few seasons we can beat all the English clubs. Our record is good against them.

“We feel we have played well against the top English clubs and shown we can beat them. But we are not afraid of anyone in the draw.”
