Five La Liga Stars Liverpool Could Be Scouting As They Look To Strengthen Their Squad

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said it is unlikely that the club will make any further purchases in January after securing Takumi Minamino on a £7.25m deal from Red Bull Salzburg.

Even so, that doesn’t mean that the Reds don’t have scouts travelling across Europe in order to monitor a number of players ahead of potential bids in the future.

With Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne likely to leave next summer, and Andy Robertson requiring a backup, there are at least three positions Liverpool may be looking at strengthening between now and the summer.

After looking at the Bundesliga last week, today we have identified five La Liga prospects that the Merseyside club may be keeping an eye on. Press the “next page” to find out more.

Emerson (Real Betis)

The Brazilian international is only 20 years of age, but he has been a regular for Betis this campaign after moving from Barcelona in the summer.

With Clyne not expected to stay at Anfield, a reserve for Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to be needed, and Emerson could be on the club’s radar to strengthen at right-back.

Sergio Reguilon (Real Madrid)

The 23-year-old is currently on loan at Sevilla but he has been the Spanish club’s first-choice left-back helping them to third in La Liga after 18 games.

Reguilon has scored one goal and provided two assists in 16 league appearances so far this campaign, and while he may be no match for Andy Robertson, he could be a useful reserve option for the Scot.

Xavi Quintilla (Villarreal)

Another left-back, and the same as age Reguilon, the Spanish defender has matched the Sevilla star’s performances this season, with two assists in 14 games.

Quintilla could also be available for a much cheaper price, which may attract Liverpool, who are not seeking a replacement for Robertson but someone who can play a supporting role.

Ferran Torres (Valencia)

At 20 years of age, the Spaniard has a lot of potential, considering he has already scored four goals and contributed four assists in just 21 appearances for Valencia this season.

Torres generally plays off the right-wing, but he can also play from the left-hand side, and he could well be someone the Reds are looking at if Shaqiri departs the club for more first-team football.

Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad)

The 22-year-old is already being tracked by a number of top European clubs, and he would likely cost a lot of money to buy.

Oyarzabal would probably only be looked at further down the line if Liverpool are looking at replacing the likes of Sadio Mane or Mo Salah. The Spanish international typically plays off the left, but can also play as a number 10 or occasionally from the right flank.
