Five Things We Learned From Liverpool’s Narrow Win Over Wolves

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool’s winning mentality continues to astound following a difficult 2-1 win at Molineux last night. The Reds were put under heavy pressure by Wolves in the second half but still managed to find the all-important winning goal.

Most of the star names will be rested for the FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury on Sunday and the players do deserve a well-earned rest after an intense game.

There were quite a few interesting facts from yesterday’s match that show just how special this Liverpool team actually is.

Press the “next page” as we look at five things we learned from the 2-1 win against Wolves:

1) Deadly From Set Pieces Once Again

Jordan Henderson’s opener just eight minutes into the game was the Red’s 15th goal from dead-ball situations this campaign.

It wasn’t too many years ago that the Merseyside club were struggling to score from set-pieces but the attention to detail under Jurgen Klopp means they have really made it a key weapon in games.

2) Roberto Firmino Scores Another Winner

The ‘Bobby Dazzler’ continues to score crucial goals. His 84th-minute strike yesterday evening was his seventh winner this season.

Firmino goals against Southampton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Monterrey, Flamengo and Tottenham also proved decisive in securing vital wins.

3) Trent’s Assist Is Another Milestone

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s excellent delivery from a corner is not something new, but it was the second successive game where he provided an assist for the opening goal.

The 21-year-old now has created 12 goals in all competitions this campaign, just four off the number he managed for the whole of last season.

4) Mane’s Injury Could Hinder Invincible Chances

Manager Jurgen Klopp has already said that Sadio Mane’s injury in the first half against Wolves could see him miss the three games before the winter break:

“It’s difficult enough. Sunday Shrewsbury, Wednesday West Ham, Saturday Southampton. That’s tough. We have to find solutions for all the games and that’s probably without Sadio.”

Mane’s goals have proven vital this season and without the Senegalese international, there is a greater risk of slipping up in games.

5) Henderson Can’t Do Any More To Silence The Doubters

The Liverpool skipper scored a goal and provided an assist last night but it was his all-round game that was seriously impressive to watch.

Henderson never allows the standards of those around him to drop, and it’s clear that there is a clear determination to rack up as many points as fast as possible to win the league title.
