Former England star slams “unprofessional” Shaqiri ahead of potential Liverpool switch

Former England international and Manchester United star Gary Neville has slammed Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri as “unprofessional”.

Shaqiri starred as Switzerland held World Cup favourites Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their Group E opener on Sunday afternoon, providing the assist for Steven Zuber’s second half goal.

Currently of Stoke City, the Swiss international is widely expected to leave the bet365 Stadium following the Potters relegation from the Premier League last term.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Shaqiri, and will reportedly do his best to sign him following the conclusion of the World Cup next month.

Gary Neville however has fired a warning to the German boss as to the kind of player he could he inheriting should he succeed in bringing him to Anfield.

“I’m not a fan of Shaqiri to be honest with you,” he said prior to Switzerland’s draw with Brazil last week.

“I think that was to be fair made worse by the fact that he distanced himself from his team-mates as Stoke.

“They were unprofessional last season Stoke there’s no doubt and he epitomises it.

“He could score the goal of the tournament and he could have the most amazing game tonight (against Brazil).

“But he could also be there for three matches, do nothing and just amble and waddle around.

“To be honest with you with him, players like that I can’t have to be honest with you, I struggle with it.”

Shaqiri is expected to cost Liverpool in the region of £12 million.
