Fowler Urges Liverpool To Be Careful As He Claims Chelsea Ace “Isn’t Worth More Than” £30M

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has told his former club not to spend more than £30m on Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

There have been reports circulating that the Blues will demand as much as £70m for the England international, despite his contract situation, but Fowler believes the Reds should not overpay for the player:

“I’m not being disrespectful when I say Mason Mount isn’t worth more than £20-£30m. Not because he’s a poor player, but because he only has a year left on his contract. No way should any club pay more than that.”

Considering Liverpool paid Arsenal £35m for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer of 2017, when the midfielder had less than a year left on his contract, Fowler may be undervaluing Mount slightly.

However, his reported asking price does seem to be pretty steep. A lot may depend on interest from other teams. Newcastle, Manchester City and Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors in recent months.

There is also still a possibility that Mount will stay at Stamford Bridge. Most journalists have claimed that talks between the midfielder and his club have stalled, but they haven’t completely broken down. We shall see how things develop in the coming weeks.
