Garth Crooks Includes Liverpool Duo And 2 Arsenal Stars In His Team Of The Week

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has selected Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Darwin Nunez in his ‘Team of the Week’ following their performances against Southampton at the weekend.

Robertson provided two assists, while Nunez bagged a brace, in the 3-1 win, which means the Reds head into the break for the World Cup on a high. Crooks was especially complimentary about Nunez, who he believes has the potential to be a “top class striker”:

“Darwin Nunez is starting to find his rhythm at Anfield and, as a consequence, the goals are beginning to come naturally as he doesn’t seem to be trying so hard to impress anymore. The 23-year-old Uruguay international undoubtedly has all the elements to become a top-class striker and might one day even fill the role left by Sadio Mane – although that is a big ask. Southampton did have a go, but didn’t have the class or firepower to really trouble the former European champions. Nunez, on the other hand, desperately wants to get on the end of things which is a nightmare for any defence.”

In terms of the rest of Crooks’ team, he selected Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope and right-back Kieran Trippier, with Leicester’s Wout Faes and Arsenal’s Gabriel alongside Robertson in defence.

Gunners captain Martin Odegaard, Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski and Leicester’s Harvey Barnes made up the midfield while, up front, Nunez is joined by Aston Villa’s Danny Ings and Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

With there now being a five-week gap before Liverpool’s next game, fans will be hoping that Robertson and Nunez stay in form until the Reds return to action.
