Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard took to Instagram this morning to react to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson being left off FIFA’s Best World XI list.
He posted two pictures of the fullbacks, with the caption simply saying “we know so it doesn’t matter,” indicating that Liverpool fans should not take the snub to heart:
It’s hard to justify why Alexander-Arnold and Robertson were left out of the best eleven players. Only one of the four defenders picked was a fullback, and that was Marcelo who had a very average season.
Sergio Ramos’s inclusion is also questionable with Real Madrid finishing third in La Liga last campaign and having failed to lift a trophy.
The inclusion of just three Premier League players from last season does suggest a bias in the voting. Liverpool and Manchester City are arguably the two best teams in Europe, and yet they barely feature in the world’s eleven.
