Glenn Hoddle Explains Why Title Rivals Should Be Concerned About “Frightening” Liverpool

Former Tottenham and England manager Glenn Hoddle says there is potential for Liverpool to improve when some of their injured players return to fitness.

The Reds started with two teenagers, in Curtis Jones and Rhys Williams, as they clinched a 2-1 win over Spurs last night and Hoddle believes they could run away with the title if their squad options increase in the coming weeks and months:

“They are doing it without some of their top players playing and so that is frightening. They still have time to hit top gear and if they do, they could find themselves going away from the rest of the group. They haven’t played like that yet and there is still a lot of points to be won and lost for Liverpool. But if they get anywhere near their top form, it is going to be Liverpool’s season.”

Liverpool did have to ride their luck against Tottenham at times, giving their opponents a fair number of chances on the counter-attack, but there were certainly spells in the game that they dominated.

With the likes of Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota set to return to action in the next month or so, there is no doubt that the Premier League champions will get stronger as the season goes on.

They still have to negotiate a tricky festive period, though, and their next fixture, against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday lunchtime, will be another big challenge.
