“Good Luck To You” Ian Wright Delivers Warning To Everton Ahead Of Merseyside Derby

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright believes Everton will have to be brave if they are to secure a result against an in-form Liverpool side on Wednesday evening.

Speaking after the Reds’ 4-0 win over Southampton, Wright said he sees very few weaknesses in Jurgen Klopp’s team and he thinks that Everton’s game plan will have to be similar to West Ham if they are to get anything from the Merseyside derby:

“At the moment, it’s very hard to find a weakness in them And when they’re playing this comfortably, you have to get them into a position where they are uncomfortable. We saw West Ham do it. When they had a bit of a lull in the game, West Ham went for them – and they won, they won the game.”

“Since then we haven’t seen any kind of weakness in them because they probably learnt from that. If you’re brave enough to come and do that – Everton… whoever it is that is brave enough to come and do that – good luck to you. Because if you get it wrong, what they’ve shown again is that any marginal mistake is going to be punished. So it’s tough.”

Liverpool are high in confidence at the moment, while the Toffees have struggled to get anything going in recent weeks. On paper, there should be only one winner at Goodison Park but, as we have seen before, derbies rarely go with the formbook.

Klopp did raise concerns about his side’s defending against Southampton, and it is the one area that teams can exploit them, as Wright points out. Even so, the Reds will still be huge favourites heading into the match next week.
