Liverpool are poised to sign former West Ham goalkeeper Adrian on a free transfer, according to multiple reports in the English media. The Spaniard has been without a club since leaving the Hammers at the end of June.
The Reds have moved quickly to find a replacement for Simon Mignolet, who is set to return to Belgium with Club Brugge. The Merseyside club agreed a €7m fee (plus €2m in add-ons) to sell the 31-year-old yesterday.
On Twitter, there was a mixed reaction among fans over whether Adrian is a capable backup to Alisson:
Better goalie than Simon…. Good signing

Happy as. Mignolet, great professional, great lad. Not the required level for Liverpool and never was really.

At least it’s an upgrade

Adrian was West Ham’s first-choice goalkeeper for a number of years but he was relegated to number two following the arrival of Lukasz Fabianski at the London Stadium last summer.
He does have a fair amount of experience of playing in the Premier League, though, having made 125 appearances in the English top-flight since arriving in the country.
