Hamann Backs Liverpool To Sign 25M Rated Real Star Who Could “Rejuvenate His Career” At Anfield

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann believes his former club should consider snapping up Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio before the transfer window closes.

The Spaniard is only likely to cost around €30m (£25m) due to the fact that he has less than a year left on his contract, and Hamann feels the move could benefit both the player and the Reds:

“Liverpool don’t need to replace Roberto Firmino because they’ve got Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez. Marco Asensio is familiar to Firmino and is a very capable player and in a team like Liverpool, he could easily rejuvenate his career.”

Asensio was heavily linked with a move to Anfield earlier this summer, with Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United also being tipped as potential destinations, but things have gone pretty quiet recently.

Following the departures of Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi, there is an argument that manager Jurgen Klopp could do with having more depth in the forward line so the Merseyside club can compete on all fronts.

However, Asensio would probably demand regular game time and, with his favoured position being on the right flank, he wouldn’t get the minutes he would need with the Reds due to Mo Salah’s presence.
