Hamann Pessimistic About Liverpool’s Top Four Hopes As He Makes Points Total Claim

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann thinks the Reds may have to win all six of their remaining Premier League games to finish in the top four this campaign.

Hamann was speaking before the Merseyside club’s draw against Leeds last night, and he says that his former team could only afford to drop points in one match between now and the end of the season:

“I think it will be very hard to finish in the top four. They’re a few points behind and with a few teams in between. If they want to finish in the top four, they probably need close enough to 20 points and I don’t think – the way they’re playing at the moment – they can do that.”

With those points dropped against Leeds, it seems a very tough task indeed, if Hamann turns out to be correct about the points required. Whether they will need to break the 70-point mark, though, it is up for debate.

While you could argue Chelsea are in good enough form to win most of their remaining games, you wouldn’t say that about either Leicester or West Ham.

The Foxes have been faltering, much like they did in the second half of last season, while the Hammers are struggling with injuries, having lost to Newcastle at the weekend. The battle for a top-four spot will likely go down to the final league game of the campaign.
