Former England and Newcastle star Alan Shearer has praised Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson‘s leadership qualities and professionalism.
When questioned on who he thought was the best captain in the Premier League, the BBC pundit chose the Reds’ talisman. He says Henderson’s work rate and attitude are second to none:
“In terms of how he’s handled the responsibility and how he’s handled that role it hasn’t fazed him at all. In fact, it’s made him a better player in terms of when he was given that captaincy in terms of that i think he deserves great credit.”
“I think the one thing that you could say with Jordan is he will never disappoint in his attitude, his commitment, his passion.”
“He’ll always run around for you and your team. for his teammates, that’s what sticks out for me. he’s always the one that’s going for the first ball, the second ball if he can’t win that he goes for a third time. In terms of his attitude, it’s never been in doubt.”
Shearer is right to point out that the midfielder has been a hugely influential player for Liverpool, both in terms of his leadership but also due to his all round game.
Henderson was seriously missed when he was sidelined for a few weeks due to a hamstring injury, and he has shown himself to be equally adept at playing either in the holding midfield role or in a more advanced position this season.
The 29-year-old has also contributed some crucial goals for the Reds this campaign, with the equaliser against Tottenham, and the opener versus Wolves at Molineux particular highlights.
