‘Henderson is a mentor of mine’, says Liverpool youngster

Liverpool starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed that Jordan Henderson has played a crucial part of his rise on the footballing scene.

Alexander-Arnold had a fantastic season with Liverpool during the 17/18 campaign, earning his place as a regular starter at right-back under Jurgen Klopp.

His brilliant displays and maturity was enough to convince Gareth Southgate to include the youngster in his England squad for the 2018 World Cup. And the defender believes his fine season has been positively influenced by his ‘mentor’ Jordan Henderson.

“He’s definitely a mentor of mine [Henderson]. There’s a few [players] you quietly sit and watch to see how they go about their day,” Alexander-Arnold told the Daily Mail.

“He’s definitely one of the ones over the course of the two years I’ve been with the first-team I’ve watched closely, and I’ve tried to pick up things he does that can make me a better player.”

The pair will begin their campaign at the World Cup on Monday against Tunisia, and Alexander-Arnold has revealed that his friendship with Henderson extends into competitive table tennis.

“I’ve been playing with Hendo, but there’s a bit of a miscommunication. He did media yesterday and told everyone he was the champ so it’s only right I set the record straight,” the youngster continued.

“You’ll have to get us both in the same room and ask the question, and the truth will come out. I’m table tennis champ over Hendo.”
