Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has praised the impact that goalkeeper Adrian has made since arriving on a free transfer in the summer.
The Spaniard was called into action very early on in the campaign due to Alisson’s calf injury but the 32-year-old has been excellent, for the most part, helping the Reds to a 100% start in the league. Wijnaldum thinks the ex-West Ham shot-stopper deserves huge credit:
“He’s done a really good job. If you see the kind of saves he makes, really important saves during the games. He also has a big influence on the results we had.”
Wijnaldum’s sentiments were echoed by supporters on Twitter who have been surprised by how good Adrian has been:
He's been a revelation. Love his attitude and smile.

Honestly the best stand-in for Alisson we could have. He has been a great asset to our team ever since the Alisson injury, and ever since he joined the club. Great goalkeeper.

Of course, his biggest contribution so far was his save in the penalty shootout to win the UEFA Super Cup in August, but he’s also shown some outstanding reflexes in other matches, most notably against Napoli when he tipped Dries Mertens’s shot over the bar.
With Alisson expected to return against Manchester United after the international break, Adrian will have to settle for a place on the bench but it’s good to know that Liverpool have a reliable number two to call upon when needed.
