Liverpool supporters have not taken too kindly to club legend Steve Nicol’s suggestion that the Reds should sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay.
The Merseysiders have limited options up front with both Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota sidelined, and Nicol felt that Depay could be a useful squad option.
However, fans on Twitter are very much against recruiting the Netherlands international, with many feeling that the former Manchester United player is past his best:
He's washed we don't need him

He’s awful and he’s almost 29 who’s proven to not be great in the premier league. That’s why we should stay clear and that’s why Steve Nicol isn’t a scout or a part of the recruitment team, thankfully.

Depay will be available pretty cheaply next month due to his contract situation, leading to the 28-year-old being linked with a host of teams, including Arsenal, Chelsea and his previous club United.
In terms of Liverpool’s priorities, it is believed that they will be looking at a move for a midfielder during the January transfer window, but if they do suffer more injuries to the forward line, the focus may have to be switched to signing a striker instead.
