Liverpool pair Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson were named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad but one player that wasn’t even given a mention was Harvey Elliott.
The 19-year-old has featured regularly for the Reds this season and his performances have been praised by a number of pundits. However, most fans on Twitter agree that this World Cup has probably come too early for the midfielder:
His time will come. Certainly not ready for full England squad yet.

He’s nowhere near ready for England yet

Tbh he's getting in most selections, not as a starter but he could be among the 26 players.
I think it depends wether he's seen as a midfielder or an attacker— Red (@KonateRed) November 10, 2022
He is still@finding his feet at Liverpool … great potential but not for this World Cup …

It came too early. If he’d played all last season and didn’t get injured, he could’ve been in with a shout

He needs more goals and assists, until then.

Elliott is a very talented player but he definitely needs to work on certain aspects of his game to be considered for international duty. He is still very one-footed which limits his actions on the ball. It could also be argued that he lacks a cutting edge in the final third of the pitch.
The teenager has already played 21 times in all competitions this season and, while he has scored three goals, he hasn’t provided an assist in any match so far. As many supporters have pointed out, though, he is still learning his trade and he clearly has the ability to go far in the game.
