Hyypia Highlights Key Area That Liverpool Can Exploit Against Bayern Munich

Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia believes he has found a major weakness in Bayern Munich’s team ahead of the Champions League last 16 clash next week.

The former defender says that the Bundesliga club are vulnerable to the counter-attacks; something the Reds should look to exploit in both legs of the tie:

“I know Bayern quite well and I think their weakness is in defending counter-attacks. We aren’t that bad at counter-attacks and I can see us scoring a few goals against Bayern in that manner over the two legs.”

“Bayern haven’t done that well in their domestic league this season but they are still dangerous.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has concerns of his own regarding the lack of fit centre-backs at his disposal.

The German has confirmed that Dejan Lovren is struggling to recover from a hamstring injury which has kept him out since the defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup last month.

It means either Fabinho or Jordan Henderson could be drafted in to play alongside Joel Matip at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The lack of defensive cover heading into an important European tie is certainly not ideal. If they are going to exploit Bayern’s own defensive frailties, they are going to have to keep things tight themselves in order to come away with a result.
