BBC pundit Alan Shearer singled out Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold for his performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup final last night.
Alexander-Arnold delivered some sumptuous passes during the game, but it was his defensive contributions that proved decisive as the Reds went on to secure a penalty shootout win at Wembley. Shearer says he was impressed by the 23-year-old’s all-round game:
“I think Trent Alexander-Arnold was sensational today. Both defensively and some of his passing was outrageous. For him then to go and stick a penalty away as cool as he did, I thought he was fantastic.”
You have to think that any questions about Alexander-Arnold’s defensive capabilities will be put to bed after yesterday’s display. He kept Mason Mount quiet for the majority of the 120 minutes, and he made some key interventions to prevent the likes of Christian Pulisic scoring.
It was a match that showed the world what Alexander-Arnold can do at his very best. The fullback will now be looking to carry that form into the final few games of the season, with the Reds still in contention to win the Premier League and Champions League.
