“I Was Shouting At Him” Klopp Reveals Fiery Exchange With Liverpool Star During Win Over Ajax

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed he does have a rather combative relationship with left-back Andy Robertson, especially during games.

The Scotland captain is closing in on his 100th Premier League appearance for the Reds and asked to remark on the milestone, Klopp was quick to praise the 26-year-old’s character, although he says his “chatty” personality can lead to some fiery exchanges between him and the player; one of which occurred on Wednesday night against Ajax:

“We had a few words in Amsterdam. I was shouting at him like a devil and with his character, he cannot hold back completely in his response. But he is like me as well, when it’s over it’s all fine. As long as you keep yourself together it’s all good. I like working with him because he is a brilliant character and a super player.”

Just with that anecdote, you can clearly see there are strong personalities in the Liverpool squad who will talk back to the manager if they think it is called for. Robertson is the type of person who will give as good as he gets, and Klopp doesn’t mind it either.

You need that fire and determination to win games and it is a testament to both of them that they never let it spill over after the 90 minutes.
